This was a sweet little project! Took longer to watch the video than to actually set it up.

Democracy distributes power and demands accountability.

Authoritarianism concentrates power and eliminates accountability.

Corporations are drawn to the latter because accountability is expensive, power concentration enables lucre, and corporations themselves are fucking sociopaths.

"Corporations themselves are fucking sociopaths" - that's a perfect summation of why corporate personhood is an existential threat.

End-to-end encryption just survived a major attack in France. This isn’t just a local victory–it’s a global message: Privacy and security are not negotiable. eff.org/deeplinks/2025/03/win-…

Swedish government, EU commission and others, take heed!

”France’s rejection of the backdoor provision should send a message to legislatures around the world: you don’t have to sacrifice fundamental rights in the name of public safety. Encryption is not the enemy of justice; it’s a tool that supports our fundamental human rights, including the right to have a private conversation. It is a pillar of modern democracy and cybersecurity.”

I imagine it is the pivot of the US govt to align with autocrats that makes Europe see the need for actual privacy.

The fediverse is an ecosystem where you - not some incellionaire obsessed with eugenics - own your digital identity.

Where your social graph belongs to you, not an algorithm’s shifting fucking whims.

Where moving from one service to another doesn’t mean losing everything you’ve built and everything you’ve ever said.

Can I translate this article into another language? There is no point in making an article from scratch because I can't write better than this.

Dammit! Annoyed at myself now, for having heard the name #tailscale before, but not checking it out before now. It's awesome, and could have saved me many hours of fiddling, which I now don't need anymore.

@lisamelton Little does he suspect that there are plenty of countries outside his who would mirror the critics’ content and have zero obligation to remove it.

… and that content on the internet can live indefinitely.

Self-hosted Friendica

So, I just set up a self-hosted instance of Friendica. Just curious to test how it compares to Mastodon. Seems, this far, to be more what I'm after. We'll see...
